We are cycling 100 km in Memory of all those lost to Cancer

Myself and my friend Catherine Duncan are taking on 100 km for Women V Cancer to enable research to continue for all those who have suffered and died. I survived Breast Cancer, however, sadly my young cousin Jennifer Scott did not. Despite being pregnant she battled against this aggressive form of the disease but sadly she died in 2019.  Wonderfully her beautiful baby survived.

The three major Women V Cancer charities need our support to continue their vital work. We are hoping to raise overall, £100,000 for Breast Cancer Now, Ovarian Cancer Action and Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust;, together we hope to conquer this devastating disease.

Whatever you can donate, any amount will help these three amazing causes! Thank you.

we cycled 100 km in memory of all those lost to cancer .....

Myself and my friend Catherine Duncan decided to take on 100 km for Women V Cancer to enable research to continue to beat this horrible disease; and in remembrance of all those who have suffered and sadly died. I survived Breast Cancer, tragically my young cousin Jennifer Scott did not. Despite being pregnant she battled against this aggressive form of breast cancer but sadly she died in 2019.  Wonderfully her beautiful baby survived. We all have known people who have had to go through gruelling treatments; help us, to help them, to continue the great work going on to stop this happening.

The three major Women V Cancer charities need our support to continue their vital work. They are hoping to raise overall, £100,000 for Breast Cancer Now, Ovarian Cancer Action and Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust;, together we hope to conquer this devastating disease.

After a two day delay due to terrible weather, we cycled off from Nethy Bridge as intended at about 0945, on the 29th; we cycled the old railway line, the Dava Way from Grantown on Spey to Forres.

Cycling up onto the moor, the Dava Way goes through wonderful woodland, craggy rock cuttings and out onto open moorland dotted with ancient stone cottages. Halfway Hut is a lovely old renovated railwayman's hut just in the right spot for the first snack of the day, with a guest book to sign to record your visit and purpose. We were surrounded with an immense blue sky, big white fluffy clouds, long grasses, scattered with blue and yellow wildflowers waving in the warm breeze, a great experience.  We continued through a great variety of wide open farmland full of black cattle and cuddly black sheep with white tails, past attractive houses, cottages and over the Divie viaduct, a terrific viewpoint; showing the dark mixed forest, deep glens and green of the fields. We had a really close encounter with a cuckoo, which helped to make the day, a wonderful place to walk or cycle! www. davaway.org.uk

We lunched beside the stunning white buildings of Dallas Dhu Distillery shining in the lovely summer sunshine.  Here we had to turn for home down the main road, however, the views were stunning, the road in places lined with wildflowers and wild orchids.  The traffic was largely kind and we eventually zoomed down the steep hill back into Grantown on Spey with only a few more miles to reach Nethy Bridge, these were the hard miles! Luckily, we were greeted by good friends and a glass of Prosecco and instantly felt revived.
Having counted the miles we see we are 6 short! So 10 more will take place on Friday to finish off!!!

A great trip with a great result, many, many thanks to all our supporters for raising such a great sum for the cause.
The very grand total to date is £1,449.

Departed about 0945 from Nethy
Returned Nethy about 1830 approx

Distance 54.43 miles - Another 10 being done today to make it to 60! Nethy Bridge to Boat of Garten achieved, another 11 miles
Climbed 2,415 feet! Max elevation was 1,114 feet on Dava Moor
Average Speed 7.3mph

Friday 24th Jul
Averaging 12-16 miles a day to keep fitness up, through rain and wind! Warm and cold temps ranged today from 10C to 21C in the afternoon, crazy! We are lucky to live in Strathspey and have the choice of many tracks on and off road; fabulous views of the hills in the area, when we can take time to look!
