Our Charities

We’re Breast Cancer Now, the charity that’s steered by world-class research and powered by life-changing care. We’re here for anyone affected by breast cancer, the whole way through, providing support for today and hope for the future.

Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to women, their families and friends affected by cervical cancer and cervical cell changes. Our mission is to see cervical cancer eliminated in the UK and, in the meantime, provide much needed support to those affected by cervical cancer.

Ovarian Cancer Action is working towards a world where no woman dies of ovarian cancer. We’re investing in research projects across three vital areas: prevention, earlier diagnosis and more effective treatments. Improvements in each of these areas will transform the lives of women today and for generations to come.

To take part in Women V Cancer Ride the Night Manchester 2023, we ask you to raise a minimum of £100 each for Women V Cancer.

This can make a real difference for people affected by breast, ovarian and cervical cancers.

£100

£100 could help fund Jo’s “Ask the Expert” service for a day, buy a bottle of serum for Ovarian Cancer Action’s scientists to culture cells in the lab and enable Breast Cancer Now to send out 500 leaflets to doctor surgeries in the UK promoting breast checking and highlighting the symptoms of breast cancer, so that more women can catch it early before it spreads.

£500

£500 will educate over 1,000 women, including those in high risk groups, about ovarian and cervical cancers and their symptoms, while funding one day’s use of specialised microscopes for research into how breast cancer develops and spreads.

£1,000

£1,000 could enable OCA scientists to detect the types of DNA at high risk of ovarian cancer and fund two specialist nurses on the Breast Cancer Now helpline for a day, while also funding the recruitment and training of one volunteer for Jo’s helpline, who will go on to support hundreds of women per year.

If you raise £500 or more by 4th August 2023 (6 weeks before the challenge), you will get a free official 500 club cycling jersey.

Saturday 16th September 2023

From 9pm | Staggered starts

We set you off in groups of around 75 women at two-minute intervals to take on either a 50km or a 100km route around Manchester, depending on which you choose.

You can select your start time when booking your place for the challenge (9.00 pm, 9.30 pm, 10 pm or 10.30 pm). Each start wave has a limited number of spaces, and these will fill up super-fast, so please register early to secure your preferred start time.

Our routes aren't finalised yet, but they will be circular, all on tarmac and clearly sign-posted, so there's no way you'll get lost. Both routes will take you past loads of famous Manchester landmarks and we'll have marshals peppered along the way to cheer you on and guide you in the right direction.

Along the routes, there'll be Feed Stations with a variety of tasty, free snacks and drinks (vegan and gluten-free options available) to keep you energised throughout the challenge. Each Feed Station will also have first aid support, bike mechanics and toilet facilities.

Finishing back at our start venue, we'll cheer you across the finish line and present you with your shiny Ride the Night Manchester 2023 medal. There'll also be hot drinks and a warming breakfast available to buy before you make your way home.

Remember, Ride the Night Manchester 2023 is not a race! Women V Cancer is non-competitive to the core and there are no event timings. Faster cyclists may complete Ride the Night Manchester in five hours, whilst slower cyclists will take up to nine hours. The cut-off time is 7 am on Sunday morning, but no one will be left behind, as we’ll have a sweeper van behind the final group of cyclists.

Top three FAQs

How fit do I need to be?

Ride the Night Manchester 2023 is designed for women from all cycles of life looking for a challenge to get fit for and push themselves out of their comfort zone to raise funds for people facing cancer.

Cycling 100km (approx. 62 miles) or 50km (approx. 31 miles) in one night is a mighty challenge, but it’s achievable if you train and we provide you with a training plan that you can download at any time from the Ride the Night Manchester 2023 tips and resources page.

Many women who take part in this special charity bike ride will have a low fitness level when they sign up. Ride the Night Manchester 2023 is the perfect motivation to train and get fit, whilst raising funds for three amazing charities.

Take it from one of our wonderful Ride the Night London past participants, Joanne:

"Come on ladies, I did the 100km challenge and I'd never been on a bike before I signed up. You have people cheering you all the way around and an absolutely fantastic feeling when you finish! I will definitely do it again! When I signed up, I was the same as everyone else, like "sure I can do this," but as the time got closer, I started to question why I had entered - but I'm so glad I did!

It was organised so well that I had no doubts when I arrived. Yes, 100km sounds a lot, but you just do it. We did it in eight hours and it was pain free. So if I could do it in the stupid weather we had, then anyone can!"

How much do I need to fundraise?

To take part in this amazing Women V Cancer charity bike ride, we ask you to fundraise a minimum of £100 by Friday 4th August 2023 (6 weeks before the event), so that your challenge can make a difference for people facing cancer at an extremely tough time.

The money you raise is split evenly between our three charities and will go a long way to help them continue their vital work...

£30 could buy a bottle of specialist dye to stain cancer cells, so that Ovarian Cancer Action’s researchers can study them with a microscope.

£100 can enable Breast Cancer Now to send out another 1,000 leaflets to GPs to promote breast checking and inform about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer.

£500 will enable Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust to provide a weekend of training to two new Helpline volunteers supporting hundreds of women.
